Greetings! My name is Nadia and I am neither a vet nor a parrot guru.
I am simply an individual who loves parrots.
A portion of this blog is drawn from scientific sources but many posts draw from my personal experience. My intent is to provide new ideas regarding caring for parrot companions.
My experience with parrots started when I was 18 and has only grown over the years. I currently live with my husband (hence I occasionally use ‘we’ in posts) and two feathered friends.
Bingo (rescue born in 1987)
Our female African Grey who is stubborn, brilliant and shy. She adores my husband and has slowly begun to tolerate my presence. It is fascinating how she can simultaneously hate me and want me in her flock. Her life with us began on a sad note but she is a fluffy contented girl now.
Baby (born in 2014)
Our male Turquoise Green-Cheeked Conure who is the craziest clown. He is literally the polar opposite of Bingo which makes for an entertaining contrast. He is the happiest little guy and a joy to have in our home (aside from the screaming of course).
While researching parrots I came across numerous great resources but I also stumbled upon outdated information. It was both frustrating and time consuming trying to piece it all together.
I wanted all of the information I gathered neatly organized so I started a compilation of all things parrot.
And then one day a light bulb went off. Why not share all of the information I had gathered and learned?
The result is The Happy Parrot blog.
